06Aug2016 - The Day We Let Go Our Guard
Rain, thunderstorms, hail and weather warnings have dominated the weather story for July across central and southern Alberta, including Calgary.
Rain at this time of year is not unusual. July is typically the second wettest month in Calgary, averaging 65.5 mm of precipitation, but this July has been exceptional. It already has exceeded the average totals for July.
The worse thing about this particular month is that almost everyday there were risks of severe thunderstorms - and for that matter, we've rigged up tarps that were ready to roll and snap into place at specific locations across our yard. However this particular day of August 6th, we managed somehow to let go our guard. Just when we thought would be just rain, turned out to be hail after a very heavy downpour start. The marble-sized hail was more than enough to shred our plants into pieces!
