For safety, we've packed our hiking gears with bear spray and bear bells - and off we go. Destination for today? Grassi Lakes up in Canmore, about 1 hour 30mins from our place via scenic route, Highway #1A.

After a quick lunch in downtown Canmore, we proceeded straight to the Nordic Center but found ourselves heading back to the town. Apparently, there has been an unusual abundance of berries up the trail -- and of course, an unusual number of bears too in the area that Grassi trails has to be closed indefinitely.

Instead, we spent the afternoon at the short hiking trails at the back of the town. We've been to Canmore so many times, yet we really haven't paid any attention to the trails close to the town. It is still a good easy hike along the river...
