Playa del Carmen is a cosmopolitan town located on the Caribbean Sea about 35 miles South of Cancun in the heart of Mexico's Mayan Riviera, in the northeast of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. We love this town and is small enough where you can walk just about anywhere you need to go. Tourist activity centers on Quinta Avenida, or Fifth Avenue, a pedestrian walkway located just one or two blocks inland from the beach. Fifth Avenue is lined with hundreds of shops, bars and restaurants.
Playa is located in a perfect location and there are many opportunities for day trips to explore Mayan ruins, snorkel, swim in a cenote (underground cave), enjoy the beach, or mingle with the locals.
Some of the highlights of this trip:- my birthday celebration in a sunset dinner aboard a Columbus replica ship in Cancun- visit to Chichen Itza Mayan ruins- visit to a Cenote, an underground river cave- visits to Playa del Carmen town
