Fri Jan 22 00:00:00 MST 2016 - 22Jan2016 - Vidanta Riviera Maya Resort - Playa del Carmen MX

Grand Mayan group of resorts has been renamed to Vidanta Riviera Maya Group of Resorts. Same quality. Same attention to detail but now has an added attraction - a theme park featuring Cirque du Soleil - a first in Mexico.

Grupo Vidanta is a collection of luxury resorts located in the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. We get to explore the many ways to a refreshing holiday - luxurious accomodations, endless pools (literally all over the place!), world-class restaurants, a round of golf or tennis, amazing cuisine, spa, gym facilities, spectacular entertainment, live music, cultural events and the performing arts, day time activities, trolley and shuttle service if you do not want to walk (because these resorts are so huge), and a staff that caters to your every need.

Wed Jan 20 23:54:19 MST 2016 - 20Jan2016 - Cirque du Soleil Mayan Resort - first in Mexico

Vidanta Riviera Maya Resort (Grand Mayan Resort, etc) partnered with Cirque du Soleil to bring Joya, the first Cirque du Soleil show in the world to include an intense and immersive theatrical-dining experience as part of the performance. This is an awe-inspiring experience never seen in Mexico. The Joya theater is an extraordinary addition to the already expansive resort - built just across the highway from the resort (Playa del Carmen). They even built a tunnel underneath the highway so you can be shuttled across unencumbered!

Sat Jan 16 00:00:00 MST 2016 - 16Jan2016 - Playa del Carmen MX

Playa del Carmen is about 45minutes to an hour from Cancun. This popular Riviera Maya destination has grown so much since we visited it about 3 yours ago. In fact, the well-known downtown La Quinta (5th Avenue), the town's main promenade strip, has just exploded into a chic and cosmopolitan destination for both travel and shopping.

I remember taking a photo of Calle Corazon the last time we've been here. Now, that same corner where the street sign once was - sits a high-end shopping mall!

Fri Jan 15 00:00:00 MST 2016 - 15Jan2016 - Mayan Ruins in Tulum

Tulum is the most picturesque archaeological site in the Riviera Maya. The greatest attraction at the Tulum Ruins is its location. Built on a bluff facing the rising sun, this ruin site is the only Maya settlement located on the beaches of the Caribbean.

Tulum is a resort town on Mexico's Caribbean coast, around 130 km south of Cancun. This 13th-century, walled Mayan archaeological site overlooks the sea. It incorporates a clifftop Castillo, built as a watchtower, and a Templo de las Pinturas, with a partially restored mural. Inland, the Coba archaeological site has pyramid-shaped temples with views overlooking the surrounding jungle. Despite its picturesque site, none of the ruins were built facing the ocean; but instead, facing the surrounding jungle -- with only one purpose: protection from storms perhaps.

Fri Jan 1 00:00:00 MST 2016 - 02Jan2016-GoingFullFrameCanon

I fried my old Canon 7D including an attached zoom lens when the popup flash shorted out! Did it ever gave a HUGE bang!

So after an exhaustive research for a new cam, I opted for a new full-frame Canon 5D Mark III and paired it with the best glass you can have -- an ultra-wide 16-35mm f/4L IS USM lens and another 24-105mm f/4L IS USM telezoom lens. Might as well go with the best out there! I also geared it up with 128GB 160MB/s CF Memory card (the fastest memory card out there); a Canon BG-E11 Battery Grip; UV, CPL, and ND Filters; and a Wireless Intervalometer/Timer/Controller.

In addition, I added a 32GB Eye-Fi MobiPro Wireless SDHC card so I can tether the camera to an iPad and my iPhone -- solely using the iPad for photo proofing/previews. The plan is to shoot and store RAW to the CF card, and then JPEG to the Eye-Fi card.

No more holds barred!
