Tue Aug 28 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - Let's Go Play Tennis, Why Not?

...and, why not on a sportbike? As long as we can carry our racquets and balls, we will take the sportbike.

There are so many tennis courts close to our place, and these are the two tennis courts we frequent...

Mon Aug 27 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - Aja Sleeps Over For Auntie Alyssa's Ecuador Trip

Aja sleeps over with us. She will be spending additional time with Auntie Alyssa, hopefully, between Alyssa's crammed packing and meeting friends.

August 27th in the morning, Alyssa will be flying to Quito, Ecuador as an exhange student. We will miss her a lot! We luv you so much, babi!

Mon Aug 27 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - A Quiet Day Boating at Ghost Lake

It is strange to know that this would actually be our first boating out ever for this 2012 summer! Here we are, summer is almost over and we haven't had the opportunity to take the boat out to the lake yet!

We just dropped off Alyssa at the airport that morning -- had our tearful goodbyes, and another tearful phone call after that. It is Monday, a workday. Less crowd. No traffic. No wind. Sunny. Calm day. No better thought than heading out to the lake, lighten up our heavy hearts. At times, while we park the boat out in the middle of the very calm, quiet lake, we found ourselves void of words and ended up teary -- but we still had our demanded good time in comfort with each company. I guess this would be our norm hereon when we let go of our kids. Now, that seems like a seniors commercial! Hmmm...

Sat Aug 25 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - Auntie Alyssa's Quality Time With Aja

Bonding times. Quality times. Alyssa will be leaving for Quito, Ecuador to further some studies and will be gone for a good 5-months.

Aja is eight months old at this time and makes those funny grunting noises when she wants your attention! She also has started crawling.

Tue Aug 21 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - Exploring Back Country Roads of Calgary

A nice day to be exploring back country roads just outside the city limits of Calgary -- of wide open spaces, rolling hills, yellow expanse of canola fields, the wet ponds of Bearspaw area, to where it is less travelled. Just me and the purring sound of a 1200cc engine!

The Kirbys: layover, enroute to Sudan... We will surely miss them. The good thing is -- we will get to see them again in a year!

Fri Aug 10 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - Taking the K12 For A Long Drive To Regina

The feeling of open space on a motorbike helped us at least from boredom. This stretch of road between Calgary and Regina is normally pretty much boring. Usually, it takes about 6-7hours of driving. This time, it took us a whopping 10 hours to reach Regina as we took several stops. We even had a one 2-hour stop at Medicine Hat.

On our way to Regina, just after Medicine Hat, we somehow caught the tail-end of a thunderstorm. As we continued driving under the rain, we still felt comfortable. I guess we came prepared for this.

NOTE to ourselves: driving high-speed at +14C is very cold without the proper gears; driving even at +20C without the proper gears is still cold; and driving at +30C with mesh jackets/with our gears is just as comfortable when you are cruising but will cook you slowly at stops!

Gears: Armored Mesh Motorcycle jackets, boots, gloves, thin waterproof rain jackets with hoodies for underlayer when needed, another layer of sweater if needed. DO NOT GO without these basic essentials; otherwise, you will be hypothermic even at a +20C run specially when driving through the mountains.

Mon Aug 6 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - Taking the K12 to Kananaskis Twisties

August Long Weekend. Another nice day for a bike trip to Kananaskis Country. This time we drove further upto Highwood River area, Highway #541.

We took a short break at our favorite stop by Barrier Lake for a quick bite, then proceeded to Kananaskis Village for a leisurely walk. We then drove further for over an hour enjoying the twisties, the scenery, the smell of fresh pine (oh, how we love that smell), pulling over at every points of interests, and even stopping for wild animals (these guys rule!). We took short breaks at Highwood Meadows and Sentinel Creek, occassionally chatting with other bikers.

Our trip heading back home was a surprise. As we hit TransCanada Highway, the traffic was bumper to bumper. Thinking that there was probably an accident somewhere ahead, we decided to pull over the road side and just sat on the grass watching commuters go by. Minutes later, a cop thought we had an accident pulled over to check if we were ok. After half an hour, the traffic started easing up. So off we go again, but at 20Kph halfway to Calgary. As it turned out, there was no traffic accident - the highway was just overwhelmed by commuters heading home from a long weekend trips.

Sun Aug 5 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - Perfect Day for Biking

August Long WeekEnd. Sunny day. Perfect day for biking!

Started off with a short walk at Nose Hill Park, Calgary's largest urban environment park covering 12 residential communities and one of the largest in Canada and North America.

For the rest of the afternoon, we biked downtown Calgary through Princess Island, upto the very eastern part of the city bike path and back to the new $25Million Peace Bridge, a 130-meter helix-like bridge that spans the Bow River.

Sat Aug 4 00:00:00 MDT 2012 - Taking the K12 Further To Banff National Park

We again took the scenic route of Highway #1A from Calgary to Canmore, and then proceeded to Banff National Park via the TransCanada Highway #1.

A day trip to Banff National Park, to the ski resort of Sunshine Village about 20 minutes from the town of Banff. Sunshine Village is renowned for its lengthy ski season and is located at the top of the Continental Divide with an average terrain height of 7,000 feet. After a quick lunch by a little stream by Sunshine Village, we proceeded back to our favorite hangout, Vermillion Lakes, and then for a scenic drive to Lake Minnewanka.
