SOLD OUR HOME!
It's been awhile now since we became empty-nesters. However, more often than not, there's still those odd times we terribly miss our kids at home. The quieteness can sometimes be deafening. Empty rooms. Big spaces. Silence.
However, an empty nest is also both a welcome and exciting time for us when after years of prioritizing our kids, now we are free to look after ours first -- and the greatest excitement it can bring can also mean the joy it gives when kids come for a visit (or, a checkup on us?), or simply a call to us. Nothing compares to the joy of hearing chats and laughter fill up empty rooms once again, or the thrill of anticipating them walk through the doors when they come visit you - something we're sure every parent look forward to.
On the other hand, an empty nest can also mean that your favorite boots or the dress that you just bought will still be there right where you left it or realizing that your trip to the grocery store is now less frequent, your driveway is no longer a parking lot of cars, you no longer hear those complains when they peek down your grocery bag when you've forgotten to buy their favorite items. You now seem to have fewer loads on the laundry, no more dirty dishes piling up your kitchen sink, no more fear of tripping over piles of shoes on your front door mat. Your favorite TV channel remains tuned while you end up sleeping in your couch with the remote on your other hand. You can now play whatever tunes you like, no matter what time, no matter how loud, or no matter how old the tune is. You can even just wear your underwear while you sneak for snack - but oh, you really don't have to sneak anymore!
But no matter what it is, you remain the parent you are. You will miss your kids!
So, we welcome this new phase of our lives. We will downsize and start the hardest part of this phase, that is, purging things you've accumulated all these years! There will be frequent visits to the clothing donation bins, visits to the city landfill, get rid of this, or sell that. Ultimately, there is a reason for all of these madness - we look forward in anticipation for the best to come! Stay tuned!
